In a world that seeks innovation, college students have a prime opportunity to impact great change in the world.Not many places for recreation nor are there good work out facilities. 4. Having teachers that side with students give them a false sense of security which leads to laziness, poor study habits, procrastination, and failing. Students think that just because their teacher is Black like them then they know where they are coming from and won’t fail them. 5. Teachers that â€Å"baby† the students aren’t properly preparing students for the real world where being on time and turning in reports etc. is critical in keeping your job as well as moving up the ladder.Opportunities 1. Expounding on the history of AAMU and the founders and people could build more good repoire with the students, staff, and AAMU campus itself. Building a sense of embrace based on the rigors, interesting facts, interesting people and places, and underlying history of AAMU through implementation of campus events. Instead of the Deltas having a forum on the Holocaust do one on AAMU’s history, people, and challenges. 2. We are in a world where Black people are pitted against one another and even at AAMU it goes on.But the campus represents a place where our intelligence can be aggregated on a united front to actually abolish the standards and constructs set up by 19th century society (Willy Lench letter). Threats 1. Sororities and fraternities may create barriers that separate the students among AAMU campus. It seems that sororities and fraternities have a lot of power over students. They have their on group, sense of brotherhood and friendship, are popular, and garner lots of attention. But the opposition to hat is that attainment of these ‘qualities’ may tend to be negative when considering that each frat at sorority think differently. A student who is considering one frat or soror for one of the qualities above is in forced opposition to other frats because their ideals don’t match. Even those outside of the frats and sororities choose sides based on the activities of the entire organization. I myself am guilty of that because I chose one over the other based on what I deemed as foul acts.I didn’t want anything to do with them so I sided with the other. My mind is very strong but there has to be feeble minded individuals roaming campus and are making choices based on negative fraternal and sororal activities versus making choices that help and build unity. 2. A sense of reverse racism may be built based on being around only Black people. Blacks have an intuition to feel as if we are being put down all of the time by White people, which may be true but can’t be proven.These ideas fester within our minds and are perpetuated from other Black students who feel the same way. These ideas may not even be that detrimental, but the overwhelming number of people thinking the same ignorant way exaggerates the idea which causes Black people to focus on irrelevant proof-less information and takes away from the useful information in the books we pay for. 3. Playing the â€Å"race card† comes about much more frequently than normal because it is embedded in us that because of our race we can’t achieve or it is so much harder for us to achieve. May be true to a certain degree, but these ideas are exaggerated further than what they are and what they need to be. Again, Blacks have a tendency to listen to other ignorant Blacks and based a high-number of â€Å"agree-ers† (which is actually very very low because we are US citizens and our race makes up about only 10 percent of the entire US population) they make excuses up onto why they are failing or not succeeding the way in which they are supposed to versus just looking in the mirror. 4.Being at a University always presents and underlying (ironic) message of school and education and when it comes down to it, this can be used as a reason not to do something that potentially aides in the betterment of AAMU as a whole. I have to go study†¦this is too much. I’m just here for school.. . Look, I’m just trying to graduate. Lackluster attitudes become abundant generally when work on top of work is involved. 5. Reputation is critical when it comes to garnering the attention of incoming freshmen and parents.If AAMU’s reputation and image isn’t mended in a way that it gets enough attention, then the potential for the school to be closed will be heightened because the lack of interest will make the lack of freshmen and grad school students decrease which in turn leads to less funding and so on and so forth. 6. The changing economy could lower the interest of out of state students because transportation costs are too high to be traveling state to state.
